Ian Lawson presented a summary of the group’s work in Peru at the Congress of the International Union for Quaternary Science in Nagoya, Japan.

The theme of this conference was “Resilience of tropical ecosystems – future challenges and opportunities” – very much in line with our research aims. Katy Roucoux gave a presentation on the palaeoecology of forest hollows, and presented (on Freddie’s behalf) a poster by Draper et al. summarizing our recent paper in ERL.

Ian Lawson chaired the meeting, which welcomed several new members. Katy and Ian both gave presentations of their recent work.

Greta Dargie, Freddie Draper, Tom Kelly and Ian Lawson attended this meeting, which focused on the use of remote sensing techniques to map tropical peatland extent and other characteristics.

Tom Kelly presented a poster on his research at the 50th anniversary meeting of the Quaternary Research Association.

Tom Kelly presented a poster, “The high hydraulic conductivity of three wooded tropical peat swamps in northeast Peru: measurements and implications for hydrological function”. You can read the abstract here.

Greta Dargie, Freddie Draper, Tom Kelly, Katy Roucoux and Ian Lawson attended this discussion meeting, which Ian chaired. Greta gave a presentation about her recent fieldwork in the Republic of Congo.

Katy Roucoux presented a poster, Abrupt vegetation transitions characterise long-term Amazonian peatland development (authors KH Roucoux, TR Baker, WD Gosling, E. Honorio Coronado, TD Jones, O Lähteenoja, and IT Lawson), on the palynological and sedimentological results from core QT-2010-1 from Quistococha, Peru. You can read the abstract here.

Freddie Draper and Tom Kelly gave presentations on their projects at a meeting of the Tropical Ecology Group of the British Ecological Society at Imperial College.
